How good a liar are you? Find out in this hilarious bluffing card game! When we were kids we loved this game because it gave us permission to lie and swear! Ha! It’s also a great introduction to the skill of bluffing which your kids will need later when they learn to play poker.
How to Deal
If you’re playing with 5 players or less, use one regular playing card deck. For more than 5 players, use two card decks.
Shuffle all the cards really well, then deal the cards to each player until the entire deck has been dealt out. It’s highly likely the cards won’t be distributed evenly, and that’s ok!
How to Play
Are you holding the Ace of Spades? If so, you’re up first!
Starting with the player who has the Ace of Spades, each player will be discarding their cards in numerical order.
At the start of your turn, announce to the other players which numerical (or face) card you will be playing, and in what quantity (suit doesn’t matter). For example, “Two Aces!” You will then place your card(s) face down in the discard pile.
Here’s the catch: As the game progresses, you might find you don’t have any of the upcoming cards. This is where you can try to lie your way through your turn! Even if you don’t have whatever card is next, you can still claim to have one (or more, if you’re brave) of a card and place cards face down in the discard pile.
If no one challenges the play, your turn is over and you’ve successfully “cheated”. Play continues as before.
BUT, if another player challenges what you claim you played, you must turn over the cards. If you didn’t put down the cards you claimed to, the challenge is good and you must pick up the entire discard pile and add it to your hand.
However, if you didn’t lie and the cards are what you claimed, the challenge is bad and the challenger is the one who must pick up the discard pile and add it to his or her hand. Play then resumes as usual.
How to Win
Be the first player to get rid of all your cards – even if you have to lie to do it (just don’t get caught).
