Want to stay sane while parenting? Involve your kids in your hobbies. Making art with my kids helps me to carve a little “me time” into my day alongside them, so I don’t get burnt out as fast on the monotony of daily life.

Turn Toddler Scribbles Into Art Together

Making art is one of my favorite ways to do this. I did a similar version of this project in high school art class. I’m not sure if there’s an official technique or artist that inspired the project, but my son makes some pretty awesome scribbles. So one day, I colored them in. Look how awesome it turned out!

As you can see, with a little imagination, it’s really easy to turn toddler scribbles into art.

Did you know- coloring also reduces stress?

Coloring reduces stress, a secondary benefit to this activity. Have you read this article about the trend from Huffington Post? Some psychologists recommend coloring as a relaxation technique. You can even buy a Mandalas Coloring Book on Amazon. There are tons of options if you search adult coloring books or mandala coloring books.

Usborne books also has adult coloring books now and they are awesome! My son and I have been enjoying coloring together in this color by number book every morning before school.

If you don’t want to spend the money, just get out your sharpie and draw your own scribbles or mandala designs and then color them in with Markers or Colored Pencils.

Coloring with my kids also gives us an opportunity for conversation and sometimes we work together on collaborative projects. Do you color with your kids?
