My boys love construction equipment and Legos. I love when they can use toys they already have to create new play experiences involving creativity and imagination, especially when they recreate real world situations. I believe this is the best way for kids to learn about the world, through play. This Lego Construction Site Invitation to Play activity does all of that.
Your kids may even come up with this, or similar scenarios, all on their own, and that’s awesome. Or you could encourage them by setting up an “invitation to play”. To learn more about setting up invitations to play, check out this tutorial from teachpreschool.org.
We already had a pile of Legos dumped out on the floor. I simply sat the dump truck and excavator nearby and encouraged them to use their tools to pick up the Legos. So this Lego Construction Site invitation to play activity wins because it requires minimum to no effort from Mom and encourages kids to both clean up and play independently.

You can even extend the Lego Construction Site activity by building a small city or buildings with the bricks and then using the excavator to “demo” the construction site. As you play, you can talk to them about the different types of construction equipment and jobs on a construction site. If you don’t know, let them teach you.
Reading with the kids is also a huge part of our lives. Sometimes, there’s a topic (like superheroes, or Star Wars) that I don’t know much about and that’s another time I turn to books. For an easy way to read more with your kids, choose books that relate to the activities you do or that interest them.
